Beware of Potential Fake AHFC “Grant Money” Posted On Social Media

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation will NEVER contact anyone directly, including Typhoon Halong survivors, on social media to offer disaster grant money.

AHFC does not ask for payment, banking info, gift cards, or personal documents in exchange for housing assistance. If you see someone claiming to be from AHFC offering “free grants,” “fast cash,” “priority funds,” or “special Typhoon Halong payouts” — it is a scam.

How To Spot Fraud & Scams

AHFC will never ask you to initiate a private message asking for personal information.

Scammers may

  • Message you directly on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp or other platforms.
  • Claim you were “selected” for disaster funds.
  • Ask you to pay fees to receive benefits.
  • Request bank, social security, or personal information.
  • Link to unofficial websites or forms.
  • Use stolen photos or logos to impersonate AHFC staff.

If You See a Scam

  • Do NOT respond.
  • Do NOT click any links.
  • Do NOT share personal information.

How to Report Fraud

If you are suspicious about any message that appears to come from AHFC, take the following steps:

  1. Report the interaction with as much detail as possible on the platform where you were contacted (e.g. Facebook or Instagram).
  2. Email us at newsdesk@ahfc.us or call us at 1-800-478-2432, toll-free.
